The Twilight Hour – Photographing Star Trails and Static Stars-Floris van Breugel

Introduction

It’s that time in the evening, when the sun has set, the clouds have put on their show, and the first stars are beginning to shimmer through the twilight blues. It’s one of the most peaceful and tranquil moments of the day, second only to predawn, but you’re probably packing your bag to make sure you get back to the car before darkness descends. Soon the stars come out in full force, lighting the sky with points of light stretching away for many light years. Take a minute and look up, it’s a wondrous sight. If you’ve never sat deep in the wilderness miles from civilization and simply watched the light retreat from east to west and the stars dance in circles around you, you’re missing out.

Restoring older images

Markosphoto.com is now offering to restore old images you may have.  Its a basic service that will cost $25 per image, along with printing costs which depends on the size.  You can email me if your interested in this service at markosphoto@markosphoto.com.  We can also color black and white images to your specifications.

Tale of one image and two lights

Ever wonder why photographers say the best light is on a overcast day, so long as you don’t have the sky in your images, its the best day to photograph close-ups of flowers or anything else you can think of.  It may not be ideal to be outside but you can get overcast conditions on a clear day bye blocking light from hitting your subject.  It may look appealing to have light hitting your subject but our eyes and camera don’t see things the same.

iBird Explorer Plus

The iPhone/iPod Touch are fantastic tools for photographers as well as nice tools for keeping your hectic life some what organized. Over the coming months I will post some reviews on applications and tools you can use for photography.

This review is for a program called iBird Explorer. Your probably thinking that this isnt a photography tool. Well if you photograph birds it can be. I love researching things I photograph to learn about them as much as possible… either before I shoot it or after.

iBird can come in handy in the field if you want to get a birds name. The program is loaded completely on your device so you dont have to worry about being in 3G or Wifi range to use it. It has a extensive database of birds in North America with pictures of most birds as well as sounds of the birds.

Searching is easy as well… searching by colors, location you can narrow down the type of bird quickly.

At the time of this writing iBird is $19.99 a steal considering the wealth of information you can carry with you in your pocket. You can get it on itunes and for Windows Mobile Devices… its a 200+ megabyte file.
